Have you ever been just sitting there on your phone and your parents ask to see your phone? This has happened many times to so many teenagers. This is something teens view as an invasion of privacy. Well, there are two sides to this arguement. One is the parents view on it. They feel that if they pay for the phone and you live under their household, then they have all the right to go into your personal business. This can be good and bad. The other side to look at is the teenagers view on it. They feel it shows that the parent doesn't have any trust in them, and even though they aren't doing anything bad, they shouldn't have to show what they are doing.
I can relate to this first hand. My parents will all the time ask me to see my phone. Honestly, I have nothing to hide but its the fact that they want to search through it. It shows a complete lack of trust and when you do nothing to lose that trust, it is annoying. Many teens can relate to this story.

ReplyDeletei agree parents shouldnt ask to see your phone. I think they should be able to trust that there son/daughter is capable of not doing anything wrong.
ReplyDeleteYour doing a great job relaying you points, and when you disect both the parent's and the child's point of view you make it vary relatable and open to compromise the next time something like this happens. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had this happen to me ONCE. It was even wrose the fact they did it without asking me, not that I had anything to hide, they legitimately have no trust in me.

ReplyDeleteMy parents didn't trust me for the longest time and they would go through my phone, iPod, and kindle and it drove me mad. I hated it, One Day I went to my mom and I told her" I understand that you want to see my things, but can you please ask. I have nothing to hide from you!" Since then She hasnt touched any of my things!
ReplyDeleteMy father, however, is not so nice, and he does as he pleases. Not that thats always a bad thing. Just last night, he was on my facebook page reading all of my messages. So to keep things away from him, I have a texting app I use so he cannot read my messages! xD
This is very true! But one way to get rid of this problem is to comfront them bout this, ask them if they have any trust in you and tell them why it hurts your feelings.
